Class Description:

Join us for a 4-week progressive series for dancers who are new to dancing, new to dancing in heels, or who want to revisit the basics! No dance experience is required. We hope to help prepare you to feel more confident dancing in heels and taking drop-in Advanced Beginner Heels classes.

Here is what to expect:

WEEKS 1, 2 & 3 - Introduction to Heels Technique & Choreography
These classes will each have a technique-focused portion as well as a choreography portion. During the technique portion we will focus on balance, stability, strengthening, and getting acclimated to moving in a heel. We will discuss proper footwear, injury prevention and learn ankle strengthening exercises. We will also do across-the-floor work, where there will be an emphasis on walking, shifting our weight, and finding the proper engagement needed throughout the leg to support ourselves in a heel. We will cover the importance of lines and bevels with some drilling exercises to get everyone used to the correct lines and shapes you’re supposed to create.

During the choreography portion of each of these classes, we will learn a dance combination that we will build on from week-to-week.

WEEK 4 - Finish Choreography & Introduce Floorwork & Freestyle
We will begin class with an introduction to floorwork (including transitions to and from the floor & creating proper lines while dancing on the floor), and freestyle, and we will finish class with the complete piece of choreography that we learned weeks 1 through 3.

Level: This is a Pure Beginner level series. Zero dance experience is expected and welcomed for this level. If you have never danced or you feel like you have two left feet, this level is for you! In this level, you will learn the basic and foundational steps of the style. Class will be taught at a slow enough pace to allow dancers an opportunity to grasp movements and concepts. There will be a clear breakdown and instruction of movement. Learning fundamentals will be the focus of class, as opposed to learning choreography. However, some choreography may be taught at this level. If so, it will be with minimal complexity and slower tempos. We typically only offer this level of class within a multi-week series, as opposed to in a drop-in, single class format.

Back to Basics: Tap 3-Week Series with Teagan Nurnberger

Sign up HERE!

Open to dancers age 18+. This class is not intended for pure beginners without any tap experience.

Dates of classes: Saturdays 6/14, 6/21 and 6/28 at 1pm

Pricing: $75 for the complete series. Please note that this series is not offered on a drop-in basis, registration is required for the entire series as class and materials build week-to-week.

Cancellation Policy: If you wish to cancel your reservation for this series, cancellation must occur by 6/7/25 at 1pm in order to receive a refund. Cancellations made after 6/7/25 will not be entitled to a refund or credit toward other classes. Missed classes within the series are not entitled to a refund or credit toward another class.

Class Description: Join us for a 3-week Tap Series where we will go back to the basics! Our intermediate tap classes focus solely on learning new choreography each session, but this series will also incorporate technique and review of skills, with a progression each week. This series will sprinkle in historical/famous tap steps all tap dancers should know and have in their back pocket!

This series may be for you if:
-You have taken our intermediate tap classes and they feel a bit overwhelming or too challenging.
-You take our intermediate tap classes and are comfortable, but you would like to revisit the basics to bolster your foundation.
-You have tap experience, but you have not taken a tap class in a while. You want to ease back in without having to stress about learning lots of choreography in one session.

The tentative structure of the series will be as follows (this is subject to change but will give you an idea of what to expect):

Week 1: Work on across-the-floor exercises, review the key vocabulary for steps, discuss and work on our basic time steps, use challenges while learning/reviewing skills (ie, increasing tempo each time, etc). The goal this week is to rebuild your confidence in your technique, musicality, weight transfers, etc.

Week 2: Review technique/steps from week 1. Adding new steps. Learn Part 1 of the Shim Sham.

Week 3: Review technique/steps from weeks 1/ 2. Adding in new steps. Learn Part 2 of the Shim Sham and put it together!

Level: This series will be taught at an Advanced Beginner level. Some dance experience is recommended for this level. If you have at least 1 to 3 years of dance experience, or you have many years of experience but have not danced for a long time, this level could be a good fit for you. Additionally, if you are newer to dance and have tried the beginner classes but they feel too easy, yet the intermediate classes feel too challenging, this level is for you. Class will have a focus on choreography, however you may review the basic and foundational steps of the style within the framework of the combination taught in class. You will most likely not learn how to execute basic and foundational steps within this level. Choreography will be taught at a slower to moderate pace with a clear breakdown and instruction, and you may see minimal technical elements (such as leaps and turns) and floorwork. Choreography will be around 30-50 seconds in length, with low to moderate complexity and slow to moderate tempos. Movements within the choreography will most likely repeat.

This series is geared towards dancers who have never taken ballet before or are new to ballet. We will be starting with the absolute basics of ballet and building up key foundational steps. No dance experience necessary!

Over the course of these 4 weeks, you will learn a basic understanding of ballet vocabulary, movement, and structure that will provide the tools necessary to take a beginner/advanced beginner class with confidence.

Week 1
We will begin with a brief history of ballet and discuss the structure of a standard ballet class. You will learn the five body positions in ballet, as well as basic ballet vocabulary.

Week 2
We will recap what we learned in Week 1, plus add on to terminology and movements at the barre and in center.

Week 3
We will continue to build upon vocabulary and steps, as well as begin to move across the floor and progress through basic jumps.

Week 4
We will combine all that we have learned so far and complete a full ballet class. We will also begin to play with tempos.
