Class Description: This series is geared towards dancers who have never taken a tap class before or are new to tap. We will be starting with the absolute basics of tap and building up key foundational steps. No dance experience necessary!
The tentative structure of the series will be as follows (this is subject to change but will give you an idea of what to expect):
Week 1: Foundations
Introduction to Tap history & basic tap steps: cramp rolls, flaps, shuffles, toe knocks, ball changes, dig beats, and ball heels, and practice steps in place, plus across the floor, with and without music to develop rhythm and coordination.
Week 2: Building Complexity
Review Week 1 steps and introduce variations using hops and double heels for added challenge.
Begin learning new steps: buffalos, maxifords, and riffs.
Week 3: Time Steps & Combination Work
Review material from Weeks 1 & 2.
Learn basic time steps and start a short combination that will be built upon over the final 2 weeks.
Week 4: Review & Confidence Building
Complete a comprehensive review of all material.
Introduce any requested steps from dancers, while continuing to build the combination. Focus on confidence, musicality, and performance skills.
Level Description: This is a Pure Beginner Series. Zero dance experience is expected and welcomed for this level. If you have never danced or you feel like you have two left feet, this level is for you! In this level, you will learn the basic and foundational steps of the style. Class will be taught at a slow enough pace to allow dancers an opportunity to grasp movements and concepts. There will be a clear breakdown and instruction of movement. Learning fundamentals will be the focus of class, as opposed to learning choreography. However, some choreography may be taught at this level. If so, it will be with minimal complexity and slower tempos. We typically only offer this level of class within a multi-week series, as opposed to in a drop-in, single class format.
