Class Description: This series is geared towards dancers who have never taken a tap class before or are new to tap. We will be starting with the absolute basics of tap and building up key foundational steps. No dance experience necessary!

The tentative structure of the series will be as follows (this is subject to change but will give you an idea of what to expect):

Week 1: Foundations

  • Introduction to Tap history & basic tap steps: cramp rolls, flaps, shuffles, toe knocks, ball changes, dig beats, and ball heels, and practice steps in place, plus across the floor, with and without music to develop rhythm and coordination.

Week 2: Building Complexity

  • Review Week 1 steps and introduce variations using hops and double heels for added challenge.

  • Begin learning new steps: buffalos, maxifords, and riffs.

Week 3: Time Steps & Combination Work

  • Review material from Weeks 1 & 2.

  • Learn basic time steps and start a short combination that will be built upon over the final 2 weeks.

Week 4: Review & Confidence Building

  • Complete a comprehensive review of all material.

  • Introduce any requested steps from dancers, while continuing to build the combination. Focus on confidence, musicality, and performance skills.

Level Description: This is a Pure Beginner Series. Zero dance experience is expected and welcomed for this level. If you have never danced or you feel like you have two left feet, this level is for you! In this level, you will learn the basic and foundational steps of the style. Class will be taught at a slow enough pace to allow dancers an opportunity to grasp movements and concepts. There will be a clear breakdown and instruction of movement. Learning fundamentals will be the focus of class, as opposed to learning choreography. However, some choreography may be taught at this level. If so, it will be with minimal complexity and slower tempos. We typically only offer this level of class within a multi-week series, as opposed to in a drop-in, single class format.

Class Description: Spend the weekend with us at our Pure Beginner Heels Intensive! This is for dancers who are new to dancing, new to dancing in heels, or who want to revisit the basics! No dance experience is required. We hope to help prepare you to feel more confident dancing in heels and taking drop-in Advanced Beginner Heels classes.

Here is what to expect:

SATURDAY - Introduction to Heels Technique & Choreography
The first day of this Intensive will begin with an introduction to heels technique. After warming up, the class will consist of exercises that place a focus on balance, stability, strengthening, and getting acclimated to moving in a heel. We will discuss proper footwear, injury prevention and learn ankle strengthening exercises.

After learning some of the basics, we’ll move on to across-the-floor work, where there will be an emphasis on walking, shifting our weight, and finding the proper engagement needed throughout the leg to support ourselves in a heel. There will also be a breakdown of lines and bevels with some drilling exercises to get everyone used to the correct lines and shapes you’re supposed to create. For the last portion of the class, we’ll begin working on choreography with a dance combination that we will finish on Sunday.

SUNDAY - Finish Choreography & Introduce Floorwork & Freestyle
After warming up and revisting all of the technical elements, we will review our choreography from the day before. The combination will end with some floowork and freestyle, so we will discuss transitions to and from the floor, and creating proper lines while dancing on the floor.

Song to be Staged: “The Schuyler Sisters" from Hamilton

Class Description: This progressive series will give you a glimpse into what it is like to stage a production number. You will have the opportunity to focus on practicing performance, stage presence, and storytelling while learning formations, blocking and longer choreography! The goal of this series is to give each dancer the opportunity to learn and perform a musical theater number from beginning to end, telling a whole story with movement, while still enabling you to build confidence and have fun.

Each class within the series will be 2 hours, and will still include a brief warm-up. Class will be taught at an Intermediate pace and level.

WEEKS 1 & 2: We will start each class with a brief warm-up before moving into learning the choreography. We will discuss and explore movement patterns, formation changes, spacing, performance textures and dynamics. At the end of Week 2, we will discuss costumes and how they influence characters and individuality in group numbers.

WEEK 3: We will spend the first half of class reviewing the choreography, cleaning and answering questions and the second half of the class running the combo. Remember, these run-throughs do not have to be perfect as this is still "the rehearsal room." Before these run-throughs, there will be a brief 5 minutes to allow you to change into any costume pieces, hair and make-up that you would like to put on. All run-throughs will be filmed by the Class Manager.

This Series will require some personal practice outside of the studio on your own time.

Class Description: Come harness your confidence on camera! Dancing for the camera can feel daunting and is a skill in and of itself that we don’t often get to practice in the confines of a drop-in dance class.

We know that and we’ve got you!

Whether you want to get high quality footage for your reel, spice up your socials, work on your heels skills, or practice performing for the camera,
this Intensive is for you!

With this new, extended class format, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Retain, rehearse, and refine the choreography,

  • Increase your confidence on camera,

  • Elevate your showmanship,

  • Explore your personal dance style,

  • Learn camera performance tips from your Choreographer & Videographer, and

  • Develop your on-camera performance skills.

Registration includes:

  • 2 sessions totaling 4 hours over 2 days, comprised of

  • 3 hours of dance instruction with Adrianna Poindexter, learning 1 piece of Heels choreography,

  • 1 hour of filming (opportunities for solo & small groups), and

  • Access to videos filmed & edited by Purple Fox Productions.

Here's what to expect:

Saturday

We’ll begin with a warm-up and jump right into learning the combination to be filmed. No filming will take place this day! This time will be solely focused on teaching, drilling and cleaning the combination so that we can feel good going into our filming day. We’ll also discuss clothing options, and some tips for performing for the camera.

Sunday

Shoot day! We’ll begin with a warm-up, then review the combo to make sure it’s nice and fresh in our brains, and answer any final questions. You’ll then have 10 minutes to change into your video outfit and touch-up your hair and makeup looks. We’ll film the combo in groups of 3, and each group will have the opportunity to film 3 times. If there is still time at the end, we’ll do duos and/or solo videos. The combo will have some floorwork.

Level Description: This is an Advanced Beginner level intensive. Some dance experience is recommended for this level. If you have at least 1 to 3 years of dance experience, or you have many years of experience but have not danced for a long time, this level could be a good fit for you. Additionally, if you are newer to dance and have tried the beginner classes but they feel too easy, yet the intermediate classes feel too challenging, this level is for you. f you haven’t danced in a few years and want to step back into it and build confidence, this level may be a good fit for you.Class will have a focus on choreography, however you may review the basic and foundational steps of the style within the framework of the combination taught in class. You will most likely not learn how to execute basic and foundational steps within this level. Choreography will be taught at a slower to moderate pace with a clear breakdown and instruction, and you may see minimal technical elements (such as leaps and turns) and floorwork. Choreography will be around 30-50 seconds in length, with low to moderate complexity and slow to moderate tempos. Movements within the choreography will most likely repeat.
