Overview description: This series is geared towards dancers who have never taken Hip Hop before or are new to Hip Hop. We will be starting with the absolute basics of Hip Hop and building up key foundational steps. No dance experience necessary!

Over the course of these 4 weeks, you will learn a basic understanding of Hip Hop vocabulary, movement, and structure that will provide the tools necessary to take a beginner/advanced beginner class with confidence.

Week 1
We establish our connection with Hip Hop music through basic rhythm exercises. Students will learn how to find the beat and tempo of any song, as well as understand the difference between whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, and eighth notes. We also learn simple footwork: Two Step, Directional Step (Front, Side, Back, and Cross), Grapevine, and Stomp.

Week 2
In this week, we focus on the fundamentals of Bouncing. We use this foundation to help keep rhythm in our bodies, finding simple grooves, and transferring weight. Although bouncing is centered around the lower half of the body, we will also focus on torso, shoulders, arms and head. These fundamentals will be added to our footwork from Week 1.

Week 3
In this week, we focus on the fundamentals of Rocking. This foundation is another way to keep rhythm in our bodies. The focus will be on our hips and torso, learning how to rock back and forth as well as side to side. There will also be an emphasis on shoulders, arms, and head. These fundamentals will be added to our footwork from Week 1.

Week 4
In our last week, we will combine all of the lessons through a choreography pattern. Most of the pattern will be choreographed, with some room for students to improvise their own phrasing. Students are encouraged to ask questions without fear of judgement.

Level Description: This is a Pure Beginner Series. Zero dance experience is expected and welcomed for this level. If you have never danced or you feel like you have two left feet, this level is for you! In this level, you will learn the basic and foundational steps of the style. Class will be taught at a slow enough pace to allow dancers an opportunity to grasp movements and concepts. There will be a clear breakdown and instruction of movement. Learning fundamentals will be the focus of class, as opposed to learning choreography. However, some choreography may be taught at this level.  If so, it will be with minimal complexity and slower tempos. We typically only offer this level of class within a multi-week series, as opposed to in a drop-in, single class format.
