Class Description: Open to dancers 18+. In this progressive series, you will learn the fundamentals of jazz technique, working your way up to learning a short choreography combination using skills learned. We will be learning: isolations, basic turns such as single pirouettes and chaîne turns, and basic jumps/leaps such as grand jete, and others. Each class will also feature strengthening and conditioning exercises to prepare for class, center work and across-the-floor work. Each class will build on what was learned in the prior session, so registration for all 4 classes is required. The goal of this class is to make you feel more confident and prepared for our drop-in jazz and contemporary classes at the beginner or advanced beginner level. No experience is required for this class.

Week 1- Introductions, brief overview of jazz technique history, learn the structure of a drop-in jazz class, learn our weekly warm up & stretch, 1-2 conditioning exercises, across the floor progressions: chasses, passe jumps, grand jete, kick ball change with and without passe/pirouette.

Week 2 - Review warm up & stretch, 2-3 conditioning exercises, across the floor progressions: review week 1, add on continuous grand jete, side leap, pas de bourre/6-step preparation, chaine turn, pique turn, jazz walks

Week 3 - Warm up & stretch, 3-4 conditioning exercises, across the floor progressions: review week 2, add on triplets, drags/drag turns, fan kicks, turning pas de bourre, short 15-20 sec combo

Week 4 - full class as if it was a normal drop-in class: warm up & stretch, 2 conditioning exercises, 2 combination progressions across the floor, 20-30 sec combo

Level Description: This is a Pure Beginner level series. Zero dance experience is expected and welcomed for this level. If you have never danced or you feel like you have two left feet, this level is for you! In this level, you will learn the basic and foundational steps of the style. Class will be taught at a slow enough pace to allow dancers an opportunity to grasp movements and concepts. There will be a clear breakdown and instruction of movement. Learning fundamentals will be the focus of class, as opposed to learning choreography. However, some choreography may be taught at this level. If so, it will be with minimal complexity and slower tempos. We typically only offer this level of class within a multi-week series, as opposed to in a drop-in, single class format.

Class Description: Join us for a 4-week progressive series for dancers who are new to dancing, new to dancing in heels, or who want to revisit the basics! No dance experience is required. We hope to help prepare you to feel more confident dancing in heels and taking drop-in Advanced Beginner Heels classes.

Here is what to expect:

WEEKS 1, 2 & 3 - Introduction to Heels Technique & Choreography
These classes will each have a technique-focused portion as well as a choreography portion. During the technique portion we will focus on balance, stability, strengthening, and getting acclimated to moving in a heel. We will discuss proper footwear, injury prevention and learn ankle strengthening exercises. We will also do across-the-floor work, where there will be an emphasis on walking, shifting our weight, and finding the proper engagement needed throughout the leg to support ourselves in a heel. We will cover the importance of lines and bevels with some drilling exercises to get everyone used to the correct lines and shapes you’re supposed to create.

During the choreography portion of each of these classes, we will learn a dance combination that we will build on from week-to-week.

WEEK 4 - Finish Choreography & Introduce Floorwork & Freestyle
We will begin class with an introduction to floorwork (including transitions to and from the floor & creating proper lines while dancing on the floor), and freestyle, and we will finish class with the complete piece of choreography that we learned weeks 1 through 3.

Level Description: This is a Pure Beginner level series. Zero dance experience is expected and welcomed for this level. If you have never danced or you feel like you have two left feet, this level is for you! In this level, you will learn the basic and foundational steps of the style. Song to be Staged: “Dancing Through Life" from Wicked

Class Description: This progressive series will give you a glimpse into what it is like to stage a production number. You will have the opportunity to focus on practicing performance, stage presence, and storytelling while learning formations, blocking and longer choreography! The goal of this series is to give each dancer the opportunity to learn and perform a musical theater number from beginning to end, telling a whole story with movement, while still enabling you to build confidence and have fun.

Each class within the series will be 1 hour, and will still include a brief warm-up. Class will be taught at an Intermediate pace and level.

WEEKS 1 - 3: Each class will start with a brief warm-up before moving into learning choreography. We will discuss and explore movement patterns, formation changes, spacing, partnering (no lifting), performance textures and dynamics. At the end of the 3rd week, class will discuss costumes and how they influence characters and individuality in group numbers.

WEEK 4: The first half of class will be spent reviewing choreography, cleaning and answering questions. You will then have a brief break to change into any costume pieces, apply make-up, and freshen your hair if you choose. During the second half of class we will run through the full “performance!” Remember, these run-throughs do not have to be perfect as this is still "the rehearsal room!" The Class Manager on duty will film the final product!

Level Description: This is a Intermediate level series. Significant dance experience (ie, many years of training) is recommended for this level. If you have danced most of your life and want to continue challenging yourself while having fun, this class is for you. Dancers in this level have a deep understanding of the basic elements of the style and are competent at learning and retaining moderate to quick choreography taught at a moderate pace. Choreography will likely not repeat movements frequently. You will see a variety of different between instructors in this level. There will be modifications for movements if needed.
