Overview description: This series is geared towards dancers who have never taken a contemporary class before or are new to contemporary. We will be starting with the absolute basics of this style and building up key foundational steps. No dance experience necessary!
Over the course of these 4 weeks, you will learn a basic understanding of the vocabulary, movement, and structure that will provide the tools necessary to take a beginner class with confidence.
Week 1: Begin with introductions and an overview of Contemporary dance. Learn warm-up fundamentals and exercises, and introduce Beginner level steps across the floor such as: lunges, triplets, drags, chasses, and 3-step turns.
Week 2: Review warm-up and across the floor fundamentals and steps from Week 1. Learn a short, mini-combo, about 10-15 seconds in length.
Week 3: Continue with warm-up and across the floor. Review and build upon mini-combo learned in Week 2.
Week 4: Complete a full class! Start with a warm-up, across the floor, and learn a full length combo, about 30 seconds in length.
Level Description: This is a Pure Beginner Series. Zero dance experience is expected and welcomed for this level. If you have never danced or you feel like you have two left feet, this level is for you! In this level, you will learn the basic and foundational steps of the style. Class will be taught at a slow enough pace to allow dancers an opportunity to grasp movements and concepts. There will be a clear breakdown and instruction of movement. Learning fundamentals will be the focus of class, as opposed to learning choreography. However, some choreography may be taught at this level. If so, it will be with minimal complexity and slower tempos. We typically only offer this level of class within a multi-week series, as opposed to in a drop-in, single class format.
